4GetNot

Keep the details
of the belongings
that matter to you.

Keep purchase details, receipts, manuals and repair history together for the personal belongings you want to remember.

In development and testing

01 / What it does

A record of the things you keep.

01 / Capture

Choose what to save.

Scan a receipt, choose the items you want to keep, and check or correct their details before saving. You can also enter details yourself. Purchase amounts stay in the currency you recorded.

02 / Keep together

Receipts and manuals.

Save receipts and PDF manuals with your records. You can also keep website links or QR codes that link to manuals.

03 / Look back

History and summaries.

Record repairs and whether you still own an item. View purchase totals by year and category. Amounts in different currencies are shown separately; the app does not convert between them.

4GetNot is for belongings you own and use. It is not designed for tracking shop stock, goods you plan to resell, or business inventory.

02 / Before you use it

A few things
to know.

Receipt scanning may miss or misread details. Check item names, prices, dates and serial numbers against your receipt, correct anything needed, and select only the items you want to save.

On your device. Available offline.

The app reads receipt text on your device. It does not upload receipts to an online scanning or artificial intelligence service. You can use saved records and PDF manuals without internet. Opening website links and downloading manuals need internet. Saving a QR code does not download or save the manual it links to.

A password is not a backup.

Set and confirm a backup password once. The app remembers it securely on this device for the backup files you save later. It is separate from your app PIN, the code you use to open the app. Keep your own copy of the password; we cannot recover a forgotten PIN or backup password.

Saving the password does not create a backup. You still need to save a backup file. Changing the password affects only new backup files; older files keep their original passwords. 4GetNot does not automatically copy your collection between devices.

When saving a backup, you can choose Files or iCloud Drive. Check that you can access a saved copy somewhere other than your phone. Keep your existing backups until you have checked the new copy. To open a new backup, use an updated version of the app that supports that backup format.

Leave enough storage space.

Original files, the app’s records, older data, temporary files, copies kept after a restore, and backups saved on your device all take up storage. Creating a backup or restoring one needs extra free space while the app works. Saved original files keep their quality.

Check your device’s Settings to see how much space the app actually uses. The limits below apply to individual files and backups. They do not limit the app’s total storage or tell you how many belongings to record.

File and backup limits
What you can saveMaximum size or number
One PDFAbout 21 MB
One receipt photoAbout 52.4 MB
All original photos and documents included in one backupAbout 268.4 MB in total
Record details in one backup, separate from photos and documentsAbout 4.2 MB
Photos and documents in one backup1,000 files
One password-protected backup fileAbout 274.7 MB

MB means megabytes, a measure of file size. The sizes above are rounded to make them easier to read. If a file is close to a limit, the app checks its exact size.

See exact file-size limits

These are the same limits, written as exact byte counts. One MB equals 1,000,000 bytes.

  • One PDF: 20,971,520 bytes.
  • One receipt photo: 52,428,800 bytes.
  • All original photos and documents in one backup: 268,435,456 bytes in total.
  • Record details in one backup: 4,194,304 bytes.
  • One password-protected backup file: 274,726,912 bytes.

Your belongings, on your device

4GetNot helps you keep records of your belongings, purchases, receipts, manuals and repairs, including whether you still own an item. This policy covers the iPhone and iPad app.

You do not need an account. 4GetNot does not send your collection to a server run by 4GetNot or sell your information. The app does not include advertising or tools that track how you use it.

Photos and receipt scanning

The app uses your camera to scan receipts, product labels and QR codes that link to manuals. You choose which photos and files to add.

Receipt text is read on your device using Apple’s built-in text-reading tool, Apple Vision. Receipt images are not uploaded to an online scanning or artificial intelligence service. The app may read details incorrectly, so check and correct them before saving.

The app saves a separate receipt copy to Photos only when you ask it to. You can change the app’s camera and photo permissions in your device’s Settings.

Storage and protection

The app encrypts your collection and saved photos and documents on your device. This means the information is scrambled and needs a key to read it. The app keeps that key in Apple’s secure storage, called iOS Keychain.

You can set a PIN, a code that controls access inside the app. This PIN is separate from the key that protects your stored records.

When you set a backup password, the app saves it separately in Apple’s secure storage for backup files you save later. The saved password is available to the app while this device is unlocked. It uses a storage setting that does not transfer it to another device.

The password is not included in your saved 4GetNot backup files, and 4GetNot does not copy it between devices. Changing the backup password affects only new backup files. Older files keep their original passwords. Keep your own copy of the password: we cannot recover a forgotten app PIN or backup password.

Scanning, adding files and viewing documents may create temporary files on your device. Your device’s security and its backup settings also affect how your information is protected.

Links, manuals and copies you share

When you open a saved website link or download a manual, that website receives connection information, including your internet connection’s address (IP address). That website’s own privacy policy applies.

The app saves QR codes as text or links. Scanning one does not automatically download a manual. A PDF manual you have saved in the app can be read without internet.

If you save or share copies to Files, Photos, iCloud or another service, that destination may keep them or copy them between devices under its own settings and privacy policy. Backups of your device may also contain app data.

Keeping and deleting your records

Your collection stays on this device until you change it or remove the app and its data. Marking an item as sold or disposed keeps its history.

Deleting an item removes it from your current list of belongings. Related receipt records, files you added and a recovery copy kept after a previous backup restore can still remain on your device. If an operation is interrupted, temporary files may also remain until the app or your device’s software cleans them up.

To remove the whole collection stored by the app on this device, choose Delete App in your device’s Settings. Offload App keeps the app’s data. Keys and passwords in Apple’s secure storage may remain after you delete the app.

Copies in Photos, Files, cloud storage or device backups are separate. Delete those copies too if you no longer want them. We do not have a server copy of your collection to delete or restore for you.

Test versions and feedback

If you use Apple’s TestFlight to test an unreleased version, TestFlight can share information about app problems, how the app is used and your feedback with Apple and the developer under Apple’s TestFlight terms.

Anything you include in feedback, such as screenshots or receipt details, is shared with the people receiving that feedback. Remove private information before sending it.

Changes

We will update this policy if the way the app handles your information changes.

If a future feature sends your information to an online text-reading or artificial intelligence service, it will need a clear explanation and controls before anything is sent. This version does not include such a feature.

The policy above describes the app. For this website, read Website privacy.
